Aerodynamics Engineer

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Aerodynamic design and analysis of launch vehicle using low to high fidelity tools to estimate vehicle aerodynamic characteristics which includes external flow simulations, stage separation analysis.
  • Establish robust analysis methodologies using CFD coupled with in-house 6DOF model to study the safe stage separation of the launch vehicle using open source and commercial CFD tools.
  • Work with vehicle configuration team on various space launch vehicle development programs.
  • Strong system level thinking and ability to give design suggestion based on simulation results.
  • Produce high quality documentation of work assigned.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer with minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of aerodynamics and heat transfer for space vehicle applications.
  • Experience in store/stage separation analysis using opensource or commercial CFD tools.
  • Experience in opensource CFD tools like Open Foam or SU2 for external aerodynamics applications is desirable.
  • Hands on experience in complete CFD process (Pre-processing, Solver setup and Post processing) for external aerodynamics and heat transfer applications.
  • Experience in unsteady CFD – URANS and LES modelling
  • Extremely good at creating water-tight geometry and high-quality hybrid or structured meshes for external aerodynamics flow simulations using ANSYS-ICEMCFD or any meshing software.
  • Familiar with computational fluid dynamics software (CFD): Preferably ANSYS-Fluent/CFD or CFD++.
  • Proficient in any one of the programming languages such as MATLAB/Python/Shell to automate the work process and post processed data.
  • Experience in Linux environment with shell scripting.
  • Experience in aeroacoustics is desirable.
  • Experience in wind tunnel experiments is desirable.
  • Experience in CAD modelling using Solid works or any design tool is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.

GNC Engineer


  • Will involve in the design and development of launch vehicle guidance and control laws.
  • Must work independently in developing the framework to assess the launch vehicle performance for various guidance and control laws.
  • Develop GNC algorithms and coordinate with software development teams in developing the flight software.


  • Experience in classical controller design, Gain scheduling and modern control design techniques.
  • Experience in developing Guidance algorithms preferably for Aerospace/Space applications
  • Experience in design and validation of the guidance and control laws by SIL and HIL tests.
  • Sound knowledge in flight mechanics, control system design for aerospace vehicles.
  • Experience in using Matlab and Simulink tools for system modelling and control system design.
  • Knowledge of C, C++ and Python is desirable.


  • Masters in Engineering with specialisation in Control System Engineering or Flight Mechanics and Control.


  • An undergraduate in Aerospace or Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Instrumentation & Control Engineering or any related field with 2 years of experience in GNC solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and intense start-up environment.

Mechanical Design/CAD Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design of fixtures and tackles for handing, transportation and assembly of large launch vehicle structures and components.
  • Generate 3D models of the components, assemblies, tooling & fixtures.
  • Create 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D CAD models along with Bill of Materials.
  • Ensure the release of the manufacturing drawings with GD&T as per aerospace standards.
  • Ownership of the models and drawings created and assist in maintaining configuration control.
  • Perform basic FEA analysis of the components.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Mechanical Design & Drafting of Aerospace or Defense components and tooling.
  • Must have minimum 1-2 years of experience with Solidworks & AutoCAD.
  • Must have sound understanding of mechanical part and assembly fits & tolerances.
  • Must have hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes such as machining, welding.
  • Experience designing handling tackles and assembly fixtures preferred.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as Ansys and Hyperworks preferred.
  • Experience with aerospace composites preferred.
  • Should be able to independently work with minimum supervision.

Quality Lead

About the Job

This position provides leadership and direction to the activities of the Skyroot Aerospace Quality department to support the design, manufacture, and testing of components, assemblies, and systems in compliance with Aerospace & Defense quality requirements. The candidate will lead a team of intermediate to experienced Quality professionals, and build Quality management systems to ensure ZERO defects on products manufactured & assembled at vendor locations and in-house.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide guidance to the quality team responsible for establishing quality acceptance procedures for aerospace grade metallic/composite parts and assemblies starting from the base raw material to the final component clearance for flight
  • Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams to understand raw material requirements, in-process quality requirements, product test plans and requirements
  • Review and clearance of Quality documents including QAPs, Dimensional inspection reports, Process log sheets and in-process check lists, NDT reports, test reports etc
  • Raise, Maintain and follow up for closure of Non-conformance reports at the stages of raw material, Manufacturing, Assembly and testing.
  • Manage vendors and approve QA matrices for the outsourced products
  • Establish and assume complete responsibility of the configuration control and management system.
  • Establish the procedures and metrics that impact quality to ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Good knowledge and capabilities in establishing robust QMS
  • Continuous improvement by quality audits to ensure compliance with internal procedures and implement process reengineering
  • Manages external audit process to achieve aerospace standard certifications like AS9100, NADCAP etc
  • Assist in building a world class quality team by identifying the gaps within the team, providing appropriate on-the-job training and hiring right candidates at the right time

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience with a minimum 5 years of Aerospace or Defense experience in a quality management role
  • At least 3 years of experience in qualifying and accepting aerospace products made of Composite materials and composite to metal joints including raw materials
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing quality assurance from the supply chain and contract manufacturing vendors
  • Minimum 1 year experience in in-process quality for integration of large assemblies in Aerospace or Defense
  • Certified NDT level III for at least one among UT, RT, CR and experience in interpreting Radiography films
  • Knowledge on raw material testing standards such as ASTM/ISO for metallics and composites
  • Experience on building a quality management system for aerospace companies
  • Familiarity with quality acceptance standards for aerospace grade fasteners & seals

Desired Requirements:

  • History of building quality teams, improving quality and reliability of processes/products in a challenging and fast paced environment will be highly valued
  • At least 2-3 years’ hands-on experience with Filament winding, Pre-Preg handling, Sandwich composites manufacturing,
  • Familiarity with various metallics machining techniques and additive manufacturing desirable
  • Hand-on experience with one or more of test procedures like joint leak checks, pressure vessel testing, water calibration tests, structural tests, hot fire tests, vibration tests etc.
  • Familiarity with acceptance standards for weld procedures and personnel certification
  • Hands-on experience in the interpretation of flaws in Composites, Honeycomb structures, metal forgings, DP, castings, welds and braze joints strongly desired

Turbomachinery Engineer

Role Overview:

  • Skyroot Aerospace is seeking a highly talented Turbomachinery Engineer to join a rapidly growing space start-up. The candidate will be associated with Liquid Propulsion Team.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Design and development, testing and post test data processing of Turbopump.
  2. Closely collaborate with the manufacturing team.
  3. Identify design modifications to improve Performance, Reliability, Manufacturability and Assembly.

Candidate Requirement:

  1. Masters degree in related Engineering field with 2-3 years of experience in Turbomachinery and area related to Liquid Propulsion.
  2. Knowledge of Turbomachinery design.
    • Mechanical Design of Impeller, Inducer, Turbine etc.
    • Turbine & Pump Fluid Mechanics Design.
    • Rotordynamics and Force Balance.
    • Design of Bearing and Seals etc.
  3. Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling Software (SolidWorks preferred).
  4. Ability to perform Structural and Fluid Analysis (Ansys preferred).
  5. Experience with Cryogenic Fluids.
  6. Proficiency in MATLAB and/or other codes.
  7. Understanding of Additive Manufacturing.
