Aerodynamics Engineer

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Aerodynamic design and analysis of launch vehicle using low to high fidelity tools to estimate vehicle aerodynamic characteristics which includes external flow simulations, stage separation analysis.
  • Establish robust analysis methodologies using CFD coupled with in-house 6DOF model to study the safe stage separation of the launch vehicle using open source and commercial CFD tools.
  • Work with vehicle configuration team on various space launch vehicle development programs.
  • Strong system level thinking and ability to give design suggestion based on simulation results.
  • Produce high quality documentation of work assigned.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer with minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of aerodynamics and heat transfer for space vehicle applications.
  • Experience in store/stage separation analysis using opensource or commercial CFD tools.
  • Experience in opensource CFD tools like Open Foam or SU2 for external aerodynamics applications is desirable.
  • Hands on experience in complete CFD process (Pre-processing, Solver setup and Post processing) for external aerodynamics and heat transfer applications.
  • Experience in unsteady CFD – URANS and LES modelling
  • Extremely good at creating water-tight geometry and high-quality hybrid or structured meshes for external aerodynamics flow simulations using ANSYS-ICEMCFD or any meshing software.
  • Familiar with computational fluid dynamics software (CFD): Preferably ANSYS-Fluent/CFD or CFD++.
  • Proficient in any one of the programming languages such as MATLAB/Python/Shell to automate the work process and post processed data.
  • Experience in Linux environment with shell scripting.
  • Experience in aeroacoustics is desirable
  • Experience in wind tunnel experiments is desirable.
  • Experience in CAD modelling using Solid works or any design tool is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.

Avionics Quality & Test Engineer

Job Description:

This profile seeks to hire a highly competent Quality Assurance and Test Engineer to work on Avionics modules that go into launch vehicles being developed at Skyroot. This will be an individual contributor role, where the selected candidate is expected to take ownership of quality control of Avionics systems including environmental testing, functional testing, component screening etc.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Will typically include (but not restricted to):

  • In charge of quality control of all phases of avionics modules development viz. component procurement, inspection, testing, wire harnessing and integration.
  • Develop and document QMS policies to be followed during development, assembly, integration, and checkout, to achieve highest level of reliability for the mission.
  • Independently take up functional and environmental testing responsibility for various avionics modules and subsystem by coordinating respective designers.
  • Participate in development of test plans for various avionics systems along with designers
  • Execute test plan and generate test reports.
  • Actively engage with vendors providing PCBA, testing and various other services.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors / Masters in Electronics Engineering or equivalent (ECE / EEE / EIE / Mechatronics)
  • 3-8 years of relevant work experience, preferably in Aerospace / Defense / Automotive domains.
  • Comprehensive & deep understanding of quality standards
  • Sound knowledge of MIL STD 461, 810G standards and IPC standards
  • Sound knowledge in QMS & AS9100 documentation
  • Good hands-on experience in all sorts of environmental testing of electronics systems for Space and Defense applications.
  • Adept at using laboratory instruments like Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Function Generator etc.
  • Experience with test automation software like LabVIEW / Python.

Embedded Hardware Engineer (Avionics)

Job Description

This profile seeks to hire a competent Embedded Hardware Design engineer to work on Skyroot’s on-board Avionics modules. This will be an individual contributor role, where the selected candidate is expected to design, implement, and test Avionics modules that go on-board onto the launch vehicle.

Skills / Requirements:

  1. Bachelors / Masters in Electronics Engineering or equivalent (ECE / EEE / EIE / Mechatronics) with 2-8 years of relevant work experience.
  2. Professional experience with designing FPGA/SoC based digital, mixed signal boards.
  3. Experience with hardware / software toolchains:
    • Excellent proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
    • Dexterity with test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, DMMs etc.) is a must
    • Proficiency in C, VHDL, LabVIEW is a big plus.

Core skillset:

  • Good understanding & experience of designing sub-sections of boards like power supply, micro-controller, ADC/DAC, protection circuits, isolation circuits etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of various electronic components available in the market.
  • Good understanding of Aerospace grade Avionics systems, signal integrity, reliability, grounding, and isolation guidelines.
  • Good understanding of various figures of merit (specifications) in datasheets
  • Good understanding of all basic circuit configurations: Voltage divider, Pull-up / Pull-down circuits, Inverting / Non-inverting amplifier, RC / LC filters, MOSFET based switches, AC coupling techniques, Biasing techniques, Buck / Boost converters etc.

  • Lead the system architecture, development, testing and integration of Avionics modules going onto launch vehicle.
  • Go to person for the team for deep technical / system level issues.
  • Define best practices to be followed during development, assembly, integration, and checkout, to achieve highest level of reliability for the mission.
  • Review designs to ensure highest quality of work, monitor progress of development and ensure timely delivery of Avionics modules according to the overall project timeline.

Lead - Quality

About the Job

This position provides leadership and direction to the activities of the Skyroot Aerospace Quality department to support the design, manufacture, and testing of components, assemblies, and systems in compliance with Aerospace & Defense quality requirements. The candidate will lead a team of intermediate to experienced Quality professionals, and build Quality management systems to ensure ZERO defects on products manufactured & assembled at vendor locations and in-house.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide guidance to the quality team responsible for establishing quality acceptance procedures for aerospace grade metallic/composite parts and assemblies starting from the base raw material to the final component clearance for flight
  • Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams to understand raw material requirements, in-process quality requirements, product test plans and requirements
  • Review and clearance of Quality documents including QAPs, Dimensional inspection reports, Process log sheets and in-process check lists, NDT reports, test reports etc
  • Raise, Maintain and follow up for closure of Non-conformance reports at the stages of raw material, Manufacturing, Assembly and testing.
  • Manage vendors and approve QA matrices for the outsourced products
  • Establish and assume complete responsibility of the configuration control and management system.
  • Establish the procedures and metrics that impact quality to ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Good knowledge and capabilities in establishing robust QMS.
  • Continuous improvement by quality audits to ensure compliance with internal procedures and implement process reengineering.
  • Manages external audit process to achieve aerospace standard certifications like AS9100, NADCAP etc
  • Assist in building a world class quality team by identifying the gaps within the team, providing appropriate on-the-job training and hiring right candidates at the right time

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience with a minimum 5 years of Aerospace or Defense experience in a quality management role.
  • At least 3 years of experience in qualifying and accepting aerospace products made of Composite materials and composite to metal joints including raw materials
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing quality assurance from the supply chain and contract manufacturing vendors.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in in-process quality for integration of large assemblies in Aerospace or Defense.
  • Certified NDT level III for at least one among UT, RT, CR and experience in interpreting Radiography films
  • Knowledge on raw material testing standards such as ASTM/ISO for metallics and composites.
  • Experience on building a quality management system for aerospace companies
  • Familiarity with quality acceptance standards for aerospace grade fasteners & seals.

Desired Requirements:

  • History of building quality teams, improving quality and reliability of processes/products in a challenging and fast paced environment will be highly valued.
  • At least 2-3 years’ hands-on experience with Filament winding, Pre-Preg handling, Sandwich composites manufacturing
  • Hand-on experience with one or more of test procedures like joint leak checks, pressure vessel testing, water calibration tests, structural tests, hot fire tests, vibration tests etc.
  • Familiarity with acceptance standards for weld procedures and personnel certification
  • Hands-on experience in the interpretation of flaws in Composites, Honeycomb structures, metal forgings, DP, castings, welds and braze joints strongly desired

Lead - Supply Chain Management

Role

The supply chain manager will play a crucial role in supporting to achieve Skyroot’s mission of rapid launch capability by building robust supply chain practices with in the organization and developing reliable long-term partnerships with the suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Finance teams to manage the inventory and ensure the procurement of all items in Bill of Materials (BOM) with in the required time lines, quality and cost
  • Maintain tight schedule and budget control with the contract manufacturers to foresee and avoid possible delays and cost over runs
  • Prepare RFQs, MOUs and ensure all the Purchase orders and payments from Skyroot to the vendors are processed
  • Establish KPI’s and drive supply chain initiatives to maximize efficiency across the organization and improve the reliability of suppliers.
  • Identify program level risks associated with the supply chain, make risk mitigation plans and implement to ensure the alignment with schedules and costs.
  • Work with other teams to establish supplier assessment criterion and develop the database of approved suppliers for all the components including fasteners, seals, metallic and composite raw materials, valves, sensors, software, electronics, contract manufacturers etc.
  • Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) from the suppliers.
  • Generate and maintain monthly/quarterly reports of planned and actual schedules and budgets of all the purchases

Minimum Qualifications

  • Engineering or Management degree with minimum 5-6 years of experience in supply chain management with in a manufacturing industry.
  • Experience with technical procurement, NPI and contract manufacturing vendors management for Aerospace products
  • Experience with negotiations and establishing long term strategic contracts with suppliers
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements, regulations for logistics and freight transportation for imports and exports and within India
  • Experience with quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP) and MRP/ERP systems
  • Strong communications written/oral communications skills and comfortable engaging across all levels of the company.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Excel and report writing

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven history in establishing supply chain teams from scratch in a fast- paced manufacturing environment

Mechanical Design/CAD Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design of fixtures and tackles for handing, transportation and assembly of large launch vehicle structures and components.
  • Generate 3D models of the components, assemblies, tooling & fixtures.
  • Create 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D CAD models along with Bill of Materials.
  • Ensure the release of the manufacturing drawings with GD&T as per aerospace standards.

Responsibilities include:
